In Your 30s–40s

Now that you’ve entered this stage of your life, you’re probably focused on advancing your career while starting your family. We have a tendency to put others first, sacrificing ourselves for the sake of those around us. During this time, we often hear our patients say that their face feels as though it is ‘falling apart’. To ensure you’re able to develop an aesthetically strong foundation, we recommend you maintain your personal skincare regimen as much as possible.

Lifestyle

Reducing stress and sun exposure, combined with regular exercise, a healthy diet, and adequate sleep, are critical components of healthy looking skin. At this age, it’s not uncommon to experience a lack of sleep due to young children or professional choices – and often both. Ensuring you get enough rest is good for you mentally as well as physically, and we highly recommend it. In addition to rest, it’s important to include proper nutrition, with plenty of water, omega fish oils, multivitamins and nutritional supplements.

We can’t say enough about protecting your skin from the sun. The sun might not be out every day here in Victoria, but UVA rays are still damaging throughout the year. Sun damage may be more evident on the left side of your face because of the amount of time you spend in your car. Choosing an effective sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or greater, or a physical block (zinc and/or titanium, for example) and wearing protective lenses can help mitigate this damage.

Treatment Considerations

Many of our clients in their thirties and forties are choosing us to help them reduce pigment changes. These pigment changes (brown spots) may be caused by various factors including birth marks, hormonal changes, birth control pills, pregnancy, or sun exposure. We have an excellent selection of options available to help you if you are starting to see minor pigment changes. As well, we have recommendations to reduce fine lines or compensate for the loss of facial volume due to aging. Botox and Facial Fillers may be appropriate options to help you maintain a natural and youthful appearance. We also have exceptional products, like SilkPeel Dermalinfusion, that can infuse your skin with vitamins, antioxidants, and other therapeutic ingredients.

You might consider adding Dermal Rolling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, to your beauty regimen. This is a procedure that you can do at home, using a special tool to stimulate the collagen production in your skin. Other treatments, including eMatrix, can provide skin resurfacing and tightening, and IPL can reduce brown spots and redness. These treatment tools are excellent ways to help minimize the signs of aging by evening the skin tone and stimulating collagen production. Today’s generation of chemical peels are highly customizable, gentle and effective on even the most sensitive skin types. Depending on the strength of the peel, downtime may be minimal. Peels provide an excellent alternative to higher priced treatment options. The strength of the peel will determine the amount of collagen production (fine line and wrinkle reduction), however all peels will leave your skin looking radiant, with smoother tone, texture, and reduced pore size.
